Barcelona area guide
Old City
Gothic District (Barri Gotic) is located in the very heart of Barcelona, to the north-east of La Rambla. The area used to be a Roman village, this is where the name of the district came from. Dark, winding streets built in 14-15 centuries now neighbour with the modern buildings built in the 90s.
Streets are narrow and so tangled, that it is easy to get lost here. The squares of the district are full of cafes and bars. But one of the main attractions of the
area is a famous Catedral, one of the largest gothic buildings in Spain. Around the Cathedral you will see the remains of the ancient walls.
There is plenty of bars and restaurants, especially around the Placa Reial, a market square where the life of the district is concentrated. Barri Gotic lives both by day and night. During the daylight you can enjoy a wonderful shopping, from the commercial area on Calle Portal de L´Angel to the small private boutiques on Calle Avinyo.
